Dedication
of School in the
Dominican Republic
Bishop
Rick and Dr. Phyllis just returned from the
Dominican Republic
where a new elementary school, Colegio Evangelico Dra. Phyllis Callahan,
in the
village
of
Sosua
, was dedicated in
Phyllis’ honor. It was founded
by missionaries, Rev. Kim and Josie Pensinger. The school has a current
enrollment of 84 students ranging in age from
4
to 12 years, and serves grades pre-school, kindergarten, first and second.
These children are being given an opportunity for a Christian
education that would never have been possible except by God’s grace, His
financial provision, and the Pensingers’ vision to provide quality
education for the children of Sosua. The
land for the school was donated, and the school building is debt-free!
It is staffed with a director (principal), four teachers and two
ladies who clean the building each day.
It is the hope
of the school’s founders to increase the grade levels next fall, and to
also use this new facility for continuing education to parents who desire to
learn English as a second language. Parents
will also be invited to participate in community activities as the
Pensingers reach out to the village residents, encouraging them to get
involved with their children’s activities at the school.
This ministry is truly a testimony of God’s faithfulness and
goodness!
Thank
you for all your prayers!
